Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 Keyboard and Mouse Set - Review

(Pic Courtesy: Microsoft)

Buying Experience

I bought this online from Amazon.in recently. The seller was SUPER DEALS 24X7. Packing was good. Prompt Delivery. Completely satisfied with the Product and the Seller.

Unboxing:

Microsoft Wireless Desktop 800 Keyboard and Mouse Set (Black) comes in a Red & White Keyboard box which itself looks beautiful. Within the box, you can see the Keyboard, Mouse, USB Dongle, 2 AAA Batteries, 1 AA Battery & the Product Leaflets. The 2 AAA Batteries can be used in the Keyboard and the 1 AA Battery in the Mouse. The dongle is almost half inch square shaped & black in colour.

Installation/Setup

Insert the batteries into the Keyboard & Mouse. There are battery slots provided behind them. Open it and it has the drawing inside to correctly place the batteries. Follow that. There is a switch provided behind the mouse but not in the Keyboard. Switch it on to make it available to connect to the computer.

Insert the USB dongle to any one of the USB slots of the computer. Within few seconds, the required drivers will get automatically installed and the Keyboard as well as the Mouse will get connected to the computer.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • The glossy frame makes it look beautiful.
  • Keys are well placed & there are enough gaps between them.
  • Curvy & Slanted keys helps to type easily.
  • As big as computer keyboard. Enough weight helps it not to fall so easily.
  • Two slanting stands provided at the bottom can be used to raise the upper height of the keyboard.
  • There is a battery low indicator provided below the keys; on the frame.
  • The range is impressive. I could type or mouse hover from my next room with 2 walls in between. Almost 10m far!
  • Mouse has an On/Off switch behind it. Helps to increase the battery life.
  • Mouse has a slot behind it to hold the USB dongle.
Cons:
  • Keyboard is a Finger Print Magnet. Mouse is Mat finished and its good.
  • Mouse scroll is white & made of Rubber. I am assuming that it will be a dirt magnet after few days of use.
  • The Escape button is provided as a small key with the function keys. I use Esc key frequently and this is really irritating.
  • The Esc & Func keys are not as raised as the other keys. I use to ensure yet again after pressing the keys, that the keys are pressed properly.
  • Bottom of the keyboard is white which I believe will become a dirt magnet soon.
  • To use Home, PgUp & PgDn you need to enable Numlock!
After few days of usage

I will keep this portion updated after a week’s/month’s/year’s usage. Stay tuned.
