iBall Music Boat 2.0 multimedia Portable speaker - Review

(Pic Courtesy: iBall)

Buying Experience

I bought this online in 2011. Got it delivered soon in good condition.

Unboxing

iBall Music Boat 2.0 multimedia Portable speaker comes in a grey box with a plastic transparent front side. Within the box, you can see the Music Boat, USB Charger, Data Cable, 3.5mm Aux cable & Product Manual.

Installation & Setup

There is no installation as such. First of all, keep the Music Boat for charging for few hours. There is a red light behind it which will start glowing during charging. There are USB in, Aux in, SD in and DC in (Micro USB) slots behind the music boat. You can connect them to the respective slots. Please see the pic below:

There are 9 buttons on top of the Music boat as shown in the below pic. They are the various music controls and the Power Button.

Functionality

You can switch between Radio, USB, Aux etc. by using the Mode button (8).
Volume can be adjusted by buttons (5) and (6). 0-25 by single clicks. 25-30 by long press.

Radio - Press and hold the Play button (3) for 3 seconds. All the available channels will get saved as CH 01, CH 02 etc. By using (7) & (9) buttons you can switch between the channels.
The Charger cable/Aux Cable are the Antennas for the Radio. So please use them for better reception.

USB - First of all it will support only FAT 32 format. Songs will not be played if the format is NTFS. When you plug the USB with songs, it will start the USB straight away from any other modes.
You can skip 10/100 songs using (7) and (9) button. I haven't seen any shuffle option in this.
When you power Music Boat on, it will start the last song that was played from the USB.

SD/MMC - Almost same as the USB.

Aux - Connect your Mobile/TV/Laptop or any other Aux out to this.

Alarm Clock - Change the mode to clock. Long press on Play (3) will switch the current time and Alarm time. After the long press, single clicks can be used to change the time & Alarm time - (2) & (4) keys. Alarm is loud enough.

Pros and Cons

Pros:
  • Solid build.
  • Great Volume.
  • I don't think it will get damaged or broken in normal accidental falls
  • Small display will show you the working mode/ songs playing.
  • Price is good with so many features.

Cons:
  • Radio needs a cable to be connected (Antenna). Cable should be in correct place as well.
  • Need to recharge it at times.
  • NTFS file system format not supported.
  • Configuration is not so user friendly.
  • No shuffle for songs

After a few days/Months/Years of usage

I have been using this for 4.5 years now. The USB charger got damaged after 1 year of use. Else everything is working great.

My rating would be 8.5/10
